Mandatory Training for all Staff All personnel involved in VA Research must take annual courses in: 1. VA Research Data Security & Privacy, 2. VHA Privacy Policy Training, and 3. VA Cyber Security Awareness This includes (but is not limited to) all VA Research Office personnel, investigators, study coordinators, research assistants, trainees such as house officers and students, administrative support staff (including secretaries and clerks), and members of the IRB and Research & Development Committee. This includes compensated and without compensation (WOC) employees, and IPAs. If research involves human subjects, they must also have annual training in Good Clinical Practices and the ethical principles of human subjects protection (see below). Human Studies Training All personnel participating in the design, conduct or analysis of research involving human subjects must obtain certification of human studies training by completing all modules of the Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI). See the Investigator Manual above for more details. Animal Studies Training All new employees MUST complete this training BEFORE conducting research with animals.
